The House this morning gave President Obama another shot at the Trans-Pacific Partnership, passing an amendment that will give the President fast-track authority to negotiate the 12-nation agreement.
The amendment, passed Thursday morning, was attached to a Senate amendment on unrelated legislation. The House amendment contained the entire Trade Promotion Authority bill that failed to get out of the House last week.
The vote, 218 to 208, included “yes” votes from Colorado Republicans Mike Coffman, Doug Lamborn and Scott Tipton, and Democrat Jared Polis. “No” votes were cast by Democrats Diana DeGette and Ed Perlmutter, and Republican Ken Buck. It mirrors how the Colorado delegation voted on TPA last week.
The amendment now goes back to the Senate for adoption. It still leaves unsettled the question of trade adjustment assistance, which would have provided funding for displaced American workers who lose their jobs due to the trade deal.
